Resolved Question: I received a check for services rendered and they canceled it. What can I do?

I am a non-licensed flooring contractor. I did two weeks of work and the owner of the house paid me $2,000.00 (by check). Payment for work rendered, I received another check on Sunday the 30th for another $2,000.00 which was cashed on Monday. I was returning to FINISH the Job on Wed. when I was told to pick up my tools and I was not to enter the house. There is still a balance of over $1,500.00 and the customer stopped payment on the 2,000 dollar check I received on Sunday. Now I am in huge trouble because I have to pay back the check cashing place the money and this guy gets all 2 weeks of 3 guys labor for free??!! There is less then a days work left on the job. There was no issue with the quality of work, they received an invoice on week two for a total of $5,500.00. Who do I contact besides a lawyer as I don't have ANY money. more

Ok me and my husband are about to get our first home in Fort Bragg. He's deployed right now so I have to do all the paperwork & stuff but I'm in TX so everything is via phone, email/internet. We are stuck between 2 houses that I picked out. One is my favorite but the other has a garage so I showed him that one as well. (I know he wants a garage so I want him to have it of course) The one I favor has a neighborhood center. (Pool, hang outs, room for FRG meetings, stuff for kids to do, place to take dog) The one I favor has a fenced in patio. * IF YOU LIKE SCARY STORIES/DREAMS WHICH ARE LONG - READ - OTHERWISE SOD OFF * 22 thousand feet above the atlantic ocean - and a sudden explosive decompression rips off the rear end of our boeing 747 (747-400 series) airline name unknown in the dream. I'm sitting in an isle to the right, overlooking the right wing and its engine. This is a big plane and there is a middle isle. The flight departs from Heathrow London, and is scheduled on a non stop flight to JFK International Airport (New York USA). I spend the entire flight eyeing the young fertile impressionable air hostesses and make the most of a mundane depressing flight surrounded by people of an inferior intellectual worth, ah such a joy air travel they say. I order a series of beer's to begin with and a father of a young 8 year old brat asks me if his son could sit in my seat and savour the view whilst I keep him company. The Kid seems nice enough at first and his old man seems like a nice humble guy, so i remember thinking 'why not ?' I GRIP a suitcase tightly as it contains some very valuable surgical tools, tools which will be utilised in their extremest sense in a 'game' that I will play with a detective in NY Brookyln. An hour passes by, and I've drank a little too many Jack Daniels on the rocks (I drank 9 beers prior to this) and I get up and request that I be allowed to open my violin case as im 'bored'. The kid at the isle doesn't shut up - in fact I order ear muffs and headache pills. He just doesn't shut up. The thought of luring him to an emergency exit and kicking his little backside out of the plane at 22 thousand feet occurs to me. But I couldn't hurt a child I recall thinking. Now, bare with me - this is important. What happens next is plane weird. pardon the pun. A part of the undercarriage at the rear section of the plane breaks off, spins upwards freakishly and smashes the stabiliser (horizontal tail of the wing at the end shaped like a triangle, if u still dont know wtf I'm talking about you're thick as sin and ought to experience my dream in real life. j/k). anyway, the seats in our plane are pulled back with immense force and I remember a bitter cold wind of up to 200mph smashing into my face, as my tie flaps over my face and my shades vanish out of a window. the explosive decompression also causes an emergency door to rip out somehow, and the kids dad sitting next to it is sucked out into the sky. Sucks to have been sitting in THAT seat I remembered thinking. I'm still not content with air service and get off my chair, battling the terrifying wind force trying to make it to the stewerd drink cabin - i need another drink. I notice an air stewerd plod towards me, with a large piece of debris wedged between his neck and back, i realise its a piece of broken chair. He coughs blood, I realise hes got seconds left before he goes - so I smugly push him aside and reach for the drinks cabnet. The plane starts taking a nose dive and I hear an air hostess rush towards ppl screaming through the howling air noise " are you able to fly a plane ???" I calmly pour a drink, im developing a frozen moustache about now and my shoes are turning into a pair of ice cubes....but I must have this one drink. The kid emerges out of no where and says 'oi mister, let me have some of that you w4nker ! " this annoys me, so i lift him up from the shirt collar and slap him 9 times across the face and throw him out of a window. I continue to drink my lovely alcoholic beverage in calmness. She races up to, and asks me '" sir can you fly a plane ?" i tell her "can you give a bj at 22 thousand feet ? " she replies " sir ? " I place my hands on her shouldesr and guide her to the floor on her knees - she unzips my zipper and i'll leave the rest to your imagination. Oh and im sipping my Jack Daniels during the ordeal. She could barely have been more than 25, a buxon brunette. After she finishes her duties, and ive finished mine - i quickly pour one last drink and march towards the cockpit doors....the turbulance and the ferocity of their wind force makes it difficult to breathe and I sense a case of dementia settling in. I kick the door several times but it wont jolt. So, I rush back to my seat - open my brief case and pull out a powerfuless cordless drill. I make a series of holes and kick the door one last time - im inside. I sit down, put on the headpiece and analyse the controls before me. I check altitude, i check fuel levels, engine power etc etc I manage to establish coms with air control and they help me guide the plane to boston airport instead. we land safely and everybody on the ground claps for me. Voting Question: mortar - how to clean from bucket and tools?

I have mixed up mortar in a bucket to use tiling the floor. How should I clean the bucket and the tools when I am done? Is scraping the metal tools off sufficient? Am I suppose to wash them? If so - what do I do with the dirty water? I'm assuming it isn't good to put it down the drain (good for the pipes or septic system). What about the bucket? I will scrape it out as best I can, but there will be some left. Should I wipe it with a paper towel? Or will it just become brittle and tomorrow I can scrape off any remnants. Thanks more

Voting Question: Lab will not stop chewing! plz read?

Jack is my nearly 8 month old labador retreiver. Hes potty trained, very good with kids, is in basic dog training and we go for a walk every single day. I watch Ceaser like constantly, so i know how important walking is for him, espcially since hes a big guy and a pup. He learns quickly mostly everything but he will not stop chewing stuff! Hes chewed up a wall, shoes, the linolium in the kitchen, hammers, tools, clothes, blankets, carpet is gone and now hes been working on our couch. I've tried the bitter apple sprays, other flavored sprays that supposed to deter him. I've got him bones to chew, toys etc but they're just not enough i guess. I don't know what else to do. We have to crate him whenever we leave the house, I don't have a job so i'm here pretty much all day and stuff so he's with me all day( or in the crate for very long i think thats mean). He'll do his bad chewing anytime someone isn't in the room, I could just hop in the shower and come out to a part of the couch cushion is all over the floor. when i walk in he runs away knowing he did wrong but he still does it. i just can't get him to stop. we walk plenty i just don't know....i appriciate any advice you can give. also, he piddles every time someone comes over, like just gets uber excited and covers ppls shoes lol... its not a whole of piddle, just a bit... thankx!!! more

If more Euro`s watch the NBA the more money the NBA makes it is a business. The problem I have with the NBA is they are paying these Euro`s all this first round guaranteed money while the black kids who are much better are signing second round contracts that are not guaranteed . I've been working at Sears as a sales associate for 3 weeks now. This is my first job. And it's incredibly difficult. The training was pointless. All I did was sit in front of a computer screen for four days and listen to an electronic voice that read information. It was really hard to concentrate. And then, they put me out on the floor. I really only had 3 days of floor training, as in working with another person. Then I was by myself. It wasn't too bad. It's just closing at the end of the night that got me. Closing can be pretty intimidating. I was freaking out because I had a customer come in at, I swear, 8:58 (the store closes at 9), to purchase something. Well, I couldn't shut down the register, since I had to wait for her. So then, It was like 9:20 when I finally shut the everythng down. I felt so stupid. They started turning the lights off on me. It was horrible. But, it wasn't my fault. I can't control the customers. And this didn't just happen once. It has happened every night I've had to close. And I've had to ask people for help. I felt bad because I made them stay an extra 20 minutes all because of me. Besides that issue, I also have a problem with one of the managers, Dave. He has been really rude to me. He was the one who shut the lights off on me and he said, "well, you should work faster," when I was going as fast as I could, without screwing things up. He even got mad at me for not getting more credit applications turned in (that's when I ask customers to apply for a Sears card) because each employee has to get 5 per month, and he gets a huge bonus. I've been trying my best and have been asking but again, I have no control over the customer. He expects a lot from me and I just started. And it's not like they taught me how to do this more efficiently because like I said, the training sucked. Besides being a sales associate, they also have me working in the hardware department. And tools is an entirely different world. It's not like I know where anything is. It's a pain. Sometimes I feel like the employers have no clue how hard it can be. So, that brings me to my question. Just wondering of some of the pros and cons of suicide. I know the obvious, its a one way decision- you cant come back, You hurt those around you that you care for, it can leave a mess for someone to clean up, which isnt very fair.. Thats the cons. The pro's are that you cease to exist. Sure you are not alive but nor are your problems or dreary life, you can get the biggest loan that a bank or loan shark will give you, give it through some untraceable form to someone you love as a sweetner then not have to pay the bank back. How many times can you get one over the bank like this? anyway, . I know there are more but to me they are the basic fundamental ones. Ok.. to eliminate the issues regarding not wanting to hurt others emotionally through your suicide how is this as a method , what say someone was to buy a small boat with an engine, take it to some remote location where no-one was around and had some very deep ocean nearby. take a few fairly large concrete blocks and a large strong fishing net and some strong drugs. Drive it out to the deepest part of the ocean untill the petrol had nearly run out, stop the boat for a minute, encase yourself and the boat in the net and attach concrete blocks to the net. Take some heroin or strong pleasant painkiller relaxant so you dont have a panicky death then drill a hole in the boat so that it will sink in about 10 minutes, when the herion had started to take affect.. Then you lie back, get high and say goodbye. The boat sinks, the net and attached concrete blocks take you and the boat to the ocean floor with no likely discoverable evidence. Because you are as high as kite you dont even really know if its real the hallucinations of the drug. It won't matter anyway. As far as everyone is concerned you went missing on holiday. Sad, but hey, everyones got to go at some point.. In this case you wouldnt be found, nor would your boat, so you are going to pretty much just vanish off the face of the earth. Previously you told people you were going on a holiday to an unknown destination but didnt appear back home. Sure there will be grief when eventually death is assumed but there will be no grief, guilt or bad feelings associated with an obvious suicide. To eliminate the evidence of the car that towed the boat to its launch location and subsequent search of the area, risking discovery of the suicide you are trying to hide, you could deliver the boat to the area a few weeks before actually doing it, then make your way by other untraceable means back to the boat's location when you want to do the deed. What are the flaws in this plan? Interested to hear peoples thoughts also, I have heard paracetmol overdose etc is a horrible way to go. What are some good ways that leave no trace that you have done it and dont mean you have to endure jumping into a crocodile's den or similar.. Not thinking of doing it. Research for book. p.s. A subquestion from my last point. If we only live once, and the pain of being eaten by crocodiles etc is generally not a desired experience in life, what do you think of using the last choice in your life to experience such a thing? I mean you could look at it as a last challenge- Me vs two hungry crocodiles. Get REALLY HYPED UP think of some good strategies to beat them, research their weak points then just jump into a crocodiles mud pit and fight him to the death. Im sure the croc has the upper hand and will probably win, but you'd feel pretty good and maybe want to live life again if you beat the croc. Maybe watch steve irwin videos for two weeks straight and buy a lifesized model of a croc as a training tool for sparring. I'm not really wanting to be cruel to animials at all.. but I think crocs fight each other and have much more chance of killing their own kind than I would. I wanted to repair a rotten section of flooring next to my bathtub. When I finally tore into it today, I discovered that there is a large rotten section of subfloor under the middle of the bathtub. The joists still seem OK. The floor on each end of the tub seems OK. There is a crawlspace underneath the tub. Is there any way to cut out and replace just this section of floor without removing the tub--maybe using a dremel tool or something? I think my 9 mo old used to work at the airport. ANY (and I mean any) unattended bag he finds, he must first attack from the outside, attack from the inside, sit in it for a while, and then go on his merry way. It doesnt matter what type of bag it is - plastic bags, paper bags, canvas bags, duffle bags, pillowcases (pillow bags), computer bags, book bags, even my tool box, which is really a duffle bag of sorts. It always happens the same way: First, he identifies the bag, sniffs at it, and then pounces on it and wrestles with it for a bit. Then he walks away from it (as if to trick the bag into thinking the battle is over), and then turns around and pounces again. Then, he launches himself into the bag, and wrestles around inside of it. I usually look up to see a bag rolling around the floor by itself at this point, and then he stops and just chills inside for a minute or 20, and then, he launches himself back out of the bag. His twin sister doesnt seem to care very much about bags, just him. What is his deal? I guess this is what I get for naming him Jack Bauer. At least I can rest knowing my house is free from the terrorist threat that is bags...I knew that cats like to hide in things, every cat i've ever had has hid in a box/bag. Its just that I've never seen any of them attack the bags with such zeal, as if the bag had wronged them. Its really pretty amusing. Toys: at this point the bags themselves are the toys. I usually leave them scattered around for his amusement. (at first, it was just fun to watch them use them for strategic purposes when plotting to attack one another). Resolved Question: How do I replace cast iron toilet flange?

I am trying to replace a toilet flange that is cast iron. The flange part broke off and now I am left with a cast iron soil pipe that is in a cement floor. Part of the pipe is broke and jagged and sticks up about an inch. Is it feasible to think that I can cut down the iron pipe to ground level and insert a pvc flange with a smaller pipe down into the cast iron pipe. If this will work how do I cut down the cast iron. I need some advice..I found 200 sq. ft of Ikea Tundra laminate flooring on Craigslist for $75. The sale includes the flooring, underlay, plastic and tools. This sounds like a great deal to me, and should be enough for the job we want to do. Even if we have to buy a few more boxes new, it's still a deal. My concern is that when I talked to the woman she mentioned that they had started the job and realized that they didn't know what they were doing and decided to buy flooring for a floor store and have it installed. So the flooring that they are selling is what they already laid in their house. They pulled it up and put it back in the boxes. So, some of it has been cut already, but she says they are very clean cuts and the floor is still in good shape. It was only purchased two weeks ago, so it's still very new. What do you think? I am working as an assistant there for 3 months and have received only 1 month salary even though I have asked for the money so many times. Other members of the staff have payments problems as well and the owner never gives out payslips or P60s. The manager who as well is teacher, lives in the premisses on a 3rd floor and her boyfriend is there all the time and even interacts with the children. They kiss each other in the classroon in front of the kids. My forehead feels quite damp, so I grab a random t-shirt from my floor and give it a quick wipe. I lay there for quite some time. This repeating nightmare began the start of my new day. It has been repeating for the last 3 years. Three years ago I moved here, to Westerly, Rhode Island; a cold, bitter, foggy, and almost unimaginable place to live for a girl like me. I really do miss my hometown in San Francisco, California. All my friends were there. I have to say I have more friends here though. Everyone I know loves me. They think I’m hilarious. The only funny things I do are make fun of weird kids. I guess that’s funny. All the girls also think I’m drop dead gorgeous. I can’t blame them. I’ve been homecoming queen, class president, and teacher’s choice ever since my arrival here. I guess at Westerly High you have to maintain your position in the food chain to be really noticed. So, I continue with my brat-like “jokes.” I guess all the odd kids at school probably hate me. The ones that don’t even maintain status in the food chain. I guess you could call them invisible. ‘Knock Knock’. The light pounding on my door awakes me from my thoughts. “Oh, come in.” I yawn. My mom walks in with a wide smile on her face. I’ve never been so happy to see her. I feel like this every morning. “Good morning, sweet pea.” She bends down to pick up, and fold articles of clothing towering on top of my floors. “Hey.” I respond. I always hated hovering. I think I can manage cleaning my room on my own. If it bothers her so much, she should go to the garage. No, dad wouldn’t even let her breathe on his ‘man’ tools. “Your breakfast is in the microwave.” She whispers as she hangs up a silky designer evening gown I wore last night to a birthday party. “Oh, I already have plans with Candice. She’s picking me up in ten minutes.”“Oh, well where are you going?” She asks.Once again, I hate hovering. “Uh, she’s picking me up and we’re eating at Chico’s Café. We have exams today, so we were going to study a little.” I yawn once again. “Well, that sounds nice.” She smiles and exits my room. I gently rub my shaky fingers through my tangled and distressed hair. I stop directly on top of my head to give it a good morning rub. Next, I rub my eyes for a good ten seconds to recap on reality. I stretch as I slump into my queen size bathroom. I look hideous. This would be the best time for someone to say, “Look who woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning…” It’s also true. I quickly rummage through the cluttered mess of fruity scented colognes, pastel tainted eyeliners, and neon pink nail polishes. I find my hairbrush and yank my way through the rats nest. I let out a couple of “ouches!” My hair is finally manageable so I move over to the straightening iron. I grab the nearest shelf closest to me and swing it open. My purple hair straightener is right on top. As I reach to grasp it, a bolt of electricity pricks my finger and works it way through my body in a matter of seconds. I let out a sharp scream, hoping my over protected mother hadn’t heard. What had just happened? I ask my self. I didn’t even have the thing plugged in, let alone, I didn’t even touch it. I place my hands over my face and slouch into the Jacuzzi tub. I try my hardest not to cry. My breathing becomes more even, so I hop out and continue onto my hair necessities. Resolved Question: Brake Pedal problem on a 97' gmc jimmy?

I have a 97 gmc jimmy. The brake booster went out on it. So I replaced. in doing this I followed all procedures...the rod length is the same as the old one. Because I didn't even open up the hydraulic system I shouldn't have to bleed the brakes but they were going to the floor now...So decide to install a new master cylinder....I bench bled this and followed all diagnostic instructions to a t.. The problem that I am Having is that when the car is off it has brakes but when you turn it on the pedal goes to the floor. all the brakes are good. and it has rear drums.( the wheel cylinders are good and the shoes are adjusted out) any ideas what could cause this problem?I am going to also add the car stops fine but it is as if there is no reserve pedal it goes to the floor.....it has abs as well and i was told you have to use a scan tool to bleed this if you suspect air of being trapped inside the unitI have replaced this with a new one a still the same problem........ more

Resolved Question: Fixing door frames; advice please?

So my dear husband replaced all the carpet in our home with wood laminate floors. He took down the door frames to change the floors in about 3 rooms. Some of them actually broke in the process. Thing is that was 2 years ago!!!! I want to go to Home Depot and buy what I need to fix it myself. My hubby isn't going to do it and besides he's only home 2 days a week (weekends) right now anyways. What do I need to look for when I go to replace the door frames? What measurments do I need? Any special tools? My hubby said we "had" to have a nail gun? True? Any help is appreciated! Thanks more

Resolved Question: Cheap queen bed frame for guest room?

Currently just moved and we have a 'guest room' in the basement. Unfortunately our spare bed a queen won't fit down the stairs, well only the box spring. So we have the queen mattress sitting on the floor down there and the box spring in the garage. We'd hate to get rid of this bed or downgrade to a full size. We looked at buying a bed frame for just the mattress that would support it properly and leaving the box spring in the garage but it was very expensive (even with ikea). Does anyone have any simple cheap solutions for getting the mattress off the floor and supported fairly well? It will rarely be used and we're going to be moving in 1-2 yrs anyways. Oh, also we don't have a queen frame for this bed the box spring just sat on the floor. We also do not own any power tools to assist us. more

Resolved Question: How Do I Get My Husband to Pick Up After Himself?

I have been married four years & yes he was like this before we got married. Now we have twins less than two years old. I know a lot of women complain about their husbands not picking up, but he is on the far end. I know, I am not the neatest in the world. Examples: when he finishes a toilet tissue roll, it goes onto the floor, if he takes something out of a bag or a the box, he doesn't throw the bag or box in the trash. Clothes, shoes, tools, anything he gets out, he usually will not put back. I have tried several things including a point system, fines. Now with the kids, I beg him not to leave small items around, but constantly I am pulling coins, his wedding ring, cigarettes, commit lozenges away from them. This week, my daughter ate part of his cig & we had to call poison control. I have begged him to baby proof, but something inside of him for some reason cannot pick up after himself or get it in his head to place things out of babies reach. When it comes to not picking up after himself in general, I don't think he does it on purpose, but is unthinking. When it comes to the babies, I think he feels you should tell them to leave stuff alone and they will. This all causes me too much work. Picking up after him and pulling his stuff away from the kids. I fear for the kids and I am fed up with it.I have tried the strike thing, but that does not work on him. The dirt & clutter will get to me far before him. Hiring a maid also has been tried. He is all for that even on his dime, the problem is I will have to make up for our bills if he runs short. I agree he should not be smoking, he does not do it around me or the children. He smokes outdoors. I know I am also as responsible for maintaing the safety of my chldren (the cig), the issue is that if he would baby proof that would be less stress on me. I am constantly pulling HIS items away from them. Now I am on the tactic that as long as they do not get hurt, let them break his things. more

Most are materialistic....a jeep, hardwood flooring for the house, pay the house off, vacation...you get the point. Problem is that I am financially irresponsible....not that I want to be. I am married and we have separate money. I make a decent living...not great but enough to pay the bills. I pay all the bills except for the house payment and his gas and spending money. How do I go about trying to save the money to get the things that I want? If I handed me check to my husband he would not give me any of it and still buy himself the occasional expensive tool. I would also not have access to my own money..if I needed it. Any suggestions? more
