Open Question: I am in a relationship, but feel very lonely, what should I do?

I am 26 and have a two year old son with my boyfriend. He bought a house for us a few months ago. He doesn't cheat on me (I don't think, and i usually know those things) He comes home everynight after work. He doesn't drink. He doesn't hit me. I love and care for him more than I have ever for another person. (other than my child) BUT I am lonely! We both have discovered that we have nothing in common. I TRY so hard. He has found happiness in the stock market recently, however he lost about $2,000. I try to get into the stocks with him, but I really don't enjoy it. I listen ro everything he has to say about the stocks and give updates to him while he is working. I don't argue with him, even though I disagree that he does it. Even though it stresses him out, it makes him happy. (whatever) Anyway.... I try to talk to him about everyday, normal stuff and he is not interested. He is always thinking about his stocks. He even chats to his co-workers on-line while he is day-trading. I can tell he would rather talk to them. And i had checked most of the conversations, and I am pretty sure he had never mentioned me in them. Its all about stocks! He works 3-11 and does this in the morning. He wakes up at 9:30 just to do it. He knows that I hate it and I am sad and lonely. I almost left him a couple weeks ago. He knew it was because he was ignoring me. He was totally different person when we fell in love. He was irresponsilbe, lived at home with mom, but the nicest guy I have ever met. And we had wonderful chemistry! But he is a totally different person now. I am lost...... what should I do?? more

Open Question: What platforms do web based stock trading systems use in the background. eg www.wallstreetsurvior.com?

I want to create an interface that will use and already in place stock trading platform. I have looked at .net stock trader if you google it but it is only a demo and never made it to market. I would like something similar to that or if you know of something open source that would do the same thing for me I would really appreciate it. I have looked all over the web so any help would be greatly appreciated. Basically I want a trading platform that I can put my own user interface on and go from there whether its open source or I have to pay for it is fine. Any suggestions would be helpful (nb: I am not sure if Marketcetera will do this for me but any suggestions are welcom). more

Open Question: Am I missing anything on the great quotes?

It's like -- it was like Special Olympics, or something." "What I’m looking at is not the day-to-day gyrations of the stock market, but the long-term ability for the United States and the entire world economy to regain its footing." "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." "We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture (1 Corinthians 13:11), the time has come to set aside childish things." "I won. I will trump you on that." (Obama to GOP) Note: That sounds childish. I thought the time had come to set aside childish things. Where's that new tone? Where's that promise of bipartisanship, Barack? "In terms of speaking to former presidents, I've spoken to all of them that are living. Obviously, President Clinton -- I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances." "I am going to teach [my daughters] first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." "[J]ust to take a, sort of a realist perspective... there's a lot of change going on outside of the Court, um, that, that judges essentially have to take judicial notice of. I mean you've got World War II, you've got uh, uh, uh, the doctrines of Nazism, that, that we are fighting against, that start looking uncomfortably similar to what we have going on, back here at home." "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too. My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody." "John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this (spreading the wealth around) socialistic. You know, I don't know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness." "Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it." "I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face." "We could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could save just as much." "Will we acknowledge — will we acknowledge that there is no more powerful example than the one each of our nations projects to the world? Will we reject torture and stand for the rule of law? "The objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to ten years." (Note to Obama: A U.S. president can be elected to two 4-year terms.) "You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual. We should have every child speaking more than one language." "We know what kind of campaign they're going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid. They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black? He's got a feisty wife." "I mean, think about it: Iran, Cuba, Venezuela-- These countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us." "Well, I think actually Justice Breyer, Justice Ginsburg are very sensible judges. I think that Justice Souter, who was a Republican appointee is a sensible judge. What you're looking for is somebody who is going to buy the law where it's clear." "You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." "The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person who, if she sees somebody on the street that sh more

Open Question: where should I start buying online stocks?

I'm looking to start buying some stocks in a few months and I was wondering where I should start out? I already have a compiled list over several markets of which stocks I'd like to pick. I can't figure out which site is the best. So far I'm looking at Sharebuilder.com and Scottrade.com as those are the only two I could possibly afford. I'm looking at long term investing and maybe a few trades a month at the most. Are these sites good for that? Also I'm confused. for example sharebuilder says 9.99 per trade. So if I bought a stock share for $2.00 then I'd get charged $9.99? How does that work out? I'd be in the red all the time just by the fees! That seems like a rip off, I don't think Im understanding it right.oh I'm 21 btw, not much money so I'm just going to start investing a little bit at a time. more

Open Question: Which company must be chosen to work on an investment research paper?

Currently working on an investment research paper as a part of of our requirements in a course. I am choosing between working the paper on a mining company and a universal bank. The mining company is well-known, and I believe its securities are known and being traded world-wide. Its securities are included in the Active Stocks of the stock exchange of our country. Seems that I would be able to gather a lot of information from the internet, news, and other resources. My only problem doing research for it is that I do not know how to add some things related to the pricing of its commodities. I believe that the prices move together with the world markets. The universal bank, on the other hand, is well known to the country. Its shares are not included in the Active Stocks. It seems to me that I have lesser resources of information than that of the mining company. I am a little bit familiar with the operations of a bank. Please help me which of them to choose to work on the paper. Thank you. =) more

Voting Question: Which do you prefer to trade.....?

I'm a 19 year old trader. Mainly I trade currencies but I sometimes swing trade stocks and binary options. I've dabbled a little in binary options on futures and have made some money but my main bread and butter is currencies. Which do you prefer to trade? Stocks/options, currencies, commodities (futures), bonds, e-minis, etc. I'd like only those who have traded at least two or three of these markets to answer. It makes no sense to answer if you've only traded stocks or futures. *NOTE: I know I'm young and have only been trading for 2 and a half years. I know I have a lot to learn and all that. So I don't need lectures about how hard certain markets are to trade or how commodities is a "zero-sum game" and all that blah blah. I know all this. I just want to know what you guys prefer to trade* more

Resolved Question: What about cap and trade do you think is bad for you personally?

I just "love" that I'll be forced to have an energy audit done when I sell my home and at my expense I will have to fix and replace anything they tell me to, otherwise I will not be allowed to sell my home. Tyranny, at it's best. We are approaching retirement and lost a great deal of our retirement savings with the stock market last winter, now our home value is lower and then, to top it off, we'll have to spend lots on expensive repairs in order to sell a devalued home. Energy saving windows on this house will run about $8,000 and our home is only worth $189,000 when it used to be worth $325,000. We still owe about 170 on it, so now what? Oh yeah, won't you love having to, weather you own an electric car or not, install an outside outlet so that anyone who visits you can charge their electric car? That makes so much sense to me in this economy. What else bothers you and what will affect you the most? more

Voting Question: Stock Investment as a teen, what do I need to know, what do I do?

I'm 17 years old (nearly 18) and I want to know and learn how to invest in stocks online, I'm not looking to make a load of money, but at the same time I don't want to lose any of the money that I invest. I need to know what I need to know about investing stocks and how the stock market works basically. Practical and basic vocab terms used in the business could help too. Things that you wouldn't assume that I already know being a person who knows nearly nothing about the stock market . If you know of any useful and accurately informational and educational sites or books about what I'm asking, that would be great too. I doubt a 17 year old can invest in stocks on e-trade but I'd like to know if any of you guys know a way around that. Or do I have to wait until I'm 18? (which I wouldn't mind all that much) I want to know what is a reasonable amount of money (or the minimum amount of money) needed to start investing. I do not want to spend more than 500 dollars. What is needed to make an account on e-trade? How long before I can start investing? Does it cost any money for the actual account? Thanks for taking the time to look at my question and have a great day. more

While cap and trade isn't perfect, it's a good compromise between nations. Considering how difficult it is to get our own two parties to agree, getting the world to agree to something is even more of a challenge. But, cap and trade will result in: - End of dependence on foreign oil - Cleaner air for God's good earth - Slow down global warming - Alternative energy that will cost a little more at first (about $12/month for a family),but will be cheaper in the long run - Thousands of new jobs in alternative energy and its development - Technologies that can exported and sold around the world - A stronger stock market when people invest in alternative energy - Better health for our kids who will be breathing cleaner air But, the right-wing, which is largely in the pocket of big oil and Saudi Arabia (the good friends of the Bushes), says it will be terrible. Do you think their paranoia will be enough to defeat cap and trade?Anarchist: Your link does not work, even after I delete the extra spaces. At any rate, cap and trade is working. In Europe, for example, the increase in greenhouse gases fell from 2.8% to .68%, and the program is not yet fully implemented. Logically, the program should work since it punishes companies that choose to pollute and rewards companies that choose to run cleaner.kscottmccormick: The right-wing Heritage Foundation is the one making the claims that cap and trade will cost a lot. Most experts expect the cost to the around $175/years. The right wing Michelle Malkin found a right-wing Spanish economist Dr. Calzada, who works for ExxonOil, to make claims about job losses. He's largely discredited. Toxic Panduh: I have researched cap and trade. The logic is that it will work (since there are economic incentives for going green). The danger is that it could take longer than expected to develop and role out effective alternative energy. more

Resolved Question: Why are Obamabots so stupid? How can we fix them?

There is unemployment, North Korea, Iran, budget deficits out the wazoo, the stock market in the tank, and even though the media won’t say what everyone else seems to know which is that cap and trade is DOA. And yet Obama keeps talking about it all like he can still wave a wand and make it all okay, just like he was sold by the media. Now that people are seeing the media-created veneer come off of Obama, his poll numbers head south fast. The question now becomes how low will he allow himself to sink in the polls until he wakes up or alternatively lets Biden step in. The signs are more clear then ever, Obama has handed trillions of dollars to bail out the rich (which will soon cause hyper-inflation), raised taxes even though he said he wouldnt (lied to your face), And in the mean-time funding a gigantic war in Pakistan and Afghanistan (even though we are broke, causing MORE hyper inflation). What are you going to do when all the kids are stuck paying off a gigantic debt because of your own stupidity? Obamabots, who will be your next idiot president to worship? My best advice is to end your own lives to prevent your genes of stupidity from being passed on to poor future generations, thanks only to you and Obama. (and for the LOVE OF GOD, im NOT a republican, I never supported any democrats or republicans (except Ron Paul) in my life because they are the same to me, so please dont say Oh your just mad Bush is gone you republican bastard, you'll just make yourself sound like more of total idiots for buying into the WWE politics.) And i can not wait till all the Obamabots are going to get the shit taxed out of them, and then complain and moan like whiny bitches...even though Ron Paul said he would ABOLISH the income tax and IRS immediately upon becoming president (i think thatd stimulate the economy). And thankfully it looks like more people are catching on, but considering all Obama has done so far im surprised people arent calling for this guys impeachment. But oh well i guess that's the typical american for you. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll more

I trade in the market and usually as soon as I enter the trade the price of the trade suddenly starts to drop. Resolved Question: Question over Big Brother is Watching Everyone.?

It a question in my homework. Here is the article you need to read first and the question is below, Privacy eroding, bit by byte Computers, Engineers Find New Ways to Keep Tabs On Us First there were security cameras, sprouting like mushrooms on street corners and buildings. Then came shopper cards, offering discounts in exchange for details about buying habits. In recent years, we've seen the emergence of electronic tags or "cookies" on the Internet, software that monitors e-mail, GPS devices that pinpoint our position on the planet, and a growing number of machines that capture fingerprints and face prints. Now comes the news that federal regulators approved the injection of microchips under the skin, enabling physicians with the right gear to know who someone is without having to ask. And yesterday, the omniscient-seeming search engine Google bested itself by announcing a service to probe for information both online and in your own machine. One company official called it a "photographic memory for your computer." Google says no personal information will be sent back to the company. But if it feels like you can't do anything these days without someone looking over your shoulder, you're not just paranoid. Cheap computers, blazing fast networks and clever engineers are finding more and more ways to keep tabs on where you go and what you buy, generally with your permission. They're even getting better at guessing what you'll do next. "It's this whole new world. It's sort of like all these little details about our lives are being recorded," said Richard M. Smith, an Internet security consultant in Boston. "We love the conveniences. We love the services. But people kind of instinctively know there's a dark side to this. They just hope it won't happen to them." Smaller, Faster and Cheaper To be sure, companies have long gathered personal and shopping information to better market to customers, often with dubious results. Who hasn't received junk mail or telemarketing calls that seem to have no connection with their lives? But those initiatives are fast improving' and accelerating as people live more of their lives tethered to cell phones, the Internet and the rest of the wired world, where trading off personal information is part of the price of admission. Think about a typical day. An advertising service is notified when you check the sports scores on the Web. The EZ-Pass transponder signals when you go through a tollbooth. The pharmacy collects personal medication details and sends them along to data companies for analysis. At work, some employees now use face recognition systems to get in to their offices, or they type on machines that trace every keystroke. "Every move you make is becoming part of your permanent record," said Peter P. Swire, a privacy expert and law professor at Ohio State University. "The trend is smaller, faster, cheaper." Rapid Accumulation There's no question the data are accumulating, and faster than many people understand. A few years ago, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley estimated that all the information created by humanity by 1999 would double by about now. One of the leading aggregators of personal information, an Arkansas company called Acxiom Corp., has roughly a million times more information about adult Americans and their families than when it first sold stock two decades ago. Other commercial information services routinely tout their ability to access some 20 billion records. And that's not counting the digital details that come in the form of photographs, videotapes and sensor readings. Most people know companies can mine credit card data, loan records and other transactions. But few know that companies already offer video-mining services as well. One day we might be able to mine the information generated by radio frequency identification chip implanted in our arms. Or we might just use a Google search service custom-made for RFID, as the chips are known. Not everybody is vexed by these trends. Homeland security, law enforcement and intelligence officials are rushing to take advantage of this wealth of information to protect the country. Web sites like Amazon.com, cell phone services, catalogue retailers, financial services companies and many others are increasingly adept at using data systems to serve customers. Ask people whether they'd give up those services, and many would offer a resounding "no." David Brin, an author and futurist, believes that recent technological developments have revolutionized the ability of people to see, through cameras around the globe, and remember details through almost unimaginably rich warehouses of information that serve as proxies for our limited memories. He predicts that we will one day be able to "know" almost everybody in the world through instant access to personal information in ubiquitous dat more

Resolved Question: I'm making a presentation about Money and Wall Street, and my friends say I should include things like......?

1. Many people use the term “WallWallWall StreetStreetStreet” as a shorthand for trading and commerce. This is because WallWallWall StreetStreetStreet leads the American market, remaining the headquarters of many influential corporations and setting trends which the rest of the country tends to follow. 2. It is the collective name for the financial and investment community, which includes stock exchanges and large banks, brokerages, securities and underwriting firms, and big businesses. Some people believe that the interests of these big firms contrast those of smaller businesses, or "Main Street". What can I say about this at the presentation? more

Voting Question: 1. What have been the key success factors for Sony?

Sony Started as a radio repair shop, founded by Masuru Ikura and Akio Morita after Would War II. The company began its long history of producing compact consumer electronics in 1957, when it introduced the World’s first pocket-sized all-transistor radio. The company’s name, Sony, was taken from Sony, the Latin word for “sound” Sony went on to invest a series of transistor-based TVs and increasingly smaller audiocassette recorders. In 1979, the Sony Walkman introduced the World to a new, portable way of listening to music. Sony became a world leader in consumer electronics and was the first Japanese company to have its shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In the late 1980s, Sony began expanding into media, purchasing a U.S. record company (CSB records for $22 billion in 1988). And a major Hollywood studio (Columbia Pictures for $4.9 billion in 1989). The purchases made Sony a major force in the entertainment industry. The importance of marketing at Sony started with Akio Morita, who said that for a company to be successful, it must have three kinds of creativity: creativity to make inventions, creativity in planning and production, and creativity in marketing. Creativity in marketing at Sony means not just cleaver ads, but deep insight into its customers. For example, Sony knows its playstation customers like to find clues and to decode things. So Sony’s ads for playstation 2, like “Signs,” feature a young man walking the streets of a city where he encounters various signs foreshadowing the events. Mannequins appear in a store window, arms outstretched, and point enigmatically to something that’s about to happen. “The lead character is almost in the midst of his own role-playing game. He needs to follows clues to save the heroine”, said Andrew House, Sony’s executive vice president of marketing. In the ads, “we were essentially trying to tap into a range of emotions that we think we deliver in the games – intrigue, forebonding, excitement, panic, relief and achievement at the end”. Sony’s marketing also includes careful measurement of each campaign’s effectiveness. Foe example, Sony runs 30-second commercials for its Playstation as part of the previews in more than 1,800 theatres and on 8,000 movie screens. The ads appear before such films as “The Cat in the Hat”. Sony Computer Entertainment America has been running movie ads for six years.” Cinema advertising has been very effective for us”, said Amil Blaire, director of product marketing.” The reason why we have committed to cinema every year is the tremendous unaided recall shown by our own research and communicus – commissioned ad tracking”. Another example of measurement is Sony’s GenY youth marketing efforts. “The online program promoting the NetMD ATRAC CD Walkman and Cybershot U30 ran July 1 through September 30, 2003, and we found that more than 70 percent static banners”, said Serge Del Grosso, Director of Media and Internet Strategy, Sony Electronics”. In fact, Sony has even developed a direct-marketing solution which it sells to other companies who want to measure marketing effectiveness. The product, called eBridge[TM], allows marketers to use video, measure the effectiveness of the campaign, and gain insight into the target audience, all in one package. Sony expects that the next big breakthrough will not come from a single new electronic device.Rather, Sony President Kunitake Ando says that the future lies in making a whole range of devices more usefully linking them in a networked home-entertainment system. The company believes that its clout in consumer electronics, combined with its media content, will allow it to steer that convergence in a way that suits it. Whether the future of convergence resides in TV’s or PC’s or devices , $62-billion Sony makes every one of them- with a strong brand name that gives them an extra push off retail shelves around the world. 1. What have been the key success factors for Sony? 2. What recommendations would you make to senior marketing executives going forward? What should they he sure to do with its marketing? more

Resolved Question: I only want a margin account so I don't have to doT+3?

I have been paper trading and everything is going good..I am doing very good so I'm planning on getting a scottrade account soon. I found out about the t+3 rule...and how you can't buy stocks under $5 on margin. I buy stocks in the last 30 minutes of the market and then sell them the next day...So I only have them 18-24 hours. I never buy and sell the same day...so technically I'm not a day trader but the T+3 rule is still too long for me. Could I do what I am wanting to do (buy then sell 18-24 hrs later) by having a margin account but not using it? Example: I have $5,000 cash..so I have $10,000 buying power..but I do not buy more than $5,000 worth...so I don't borrow any money for stocks...if I do this will I be "all set to go" and I won't be free riding? and the T+3 rule wouldnt apply because i technically have a margin account? Thanks =) more
